Microsoft gives Windows 8.1 some Fresh Paint. Microsoft finalizes its new digital-painting app Fresh Paint and plans to ship it with Windows 8.1 when it debuts next week.
Microsoft Paint, which also goes as Paintbrush and Windows Paint, is a very simple and widely used image editing and creation application. Responsible for introducing many to painting on a compute for the first time, Microsoft Paint has been a mainstay with all of the Windows Operating Systems.
Introduced in the early days of Windows 1.0, it is still bundled in with the Windows OS to this day. Microsoft Paint creates files using the Bitmap format, which uses the BMP file extension.
This format uses an array of colors and bits (though can be used in black-and-white format). Files in the formats GIF, TIFF and JPEG can also be opened and saved in Microsoft Paint.
In the early days of the Windows OS, Microsoft Paint was widely used and, though it is still used today, it has been widely replaced by other, more advanced image editing programs that offer a broader range of features and a wider range of capabilities. Microsoft Paint advanced with each edition of the Windows OS and, in the Windows 7 and Windows 8 Operating Systems, there were a huge number of additional features and functions compared to the first few releases of the program. A version called Paint 3D was also leaked and is currently under development.
